Derby County defied the odds to pull off a remarkable 4-2 win against Leeds United to reach the Championship play-off final on Wednesday evening, and after the match their supporters showed plenty of love to their star of the show.
The Rams could have been forgiven for thinking that the second leg was going to be a step too far for them after losing the first part of the semi-final 1-0 at home on Saturday evening, but there was none of that from their players.
A sizeable task became even more difficult soon after kick off though, when Stuart Dallas put Derby 2-0 down on aggregate, however an inspired substitution from Frank Lampard had a huge effect.
The Rams boss brought on Jack Marriott a couple of minutes before half time and the forward scored with his first touch, after a huge mix up between the home defence and goalkeeper, to bring the Pride Park outfit back into the tie.
Derby took control of it after the break. Mason Mount levelled the scores on aggregate within a minute of the interval, and Harry Wilson converted a penalty to send them 3-2 up overall.
Just when you thought the visitors were going to make it through, Leeds levelled up, but after they had a man dismissed for two bookings, the stage was left for Marriott to finish off the scoring with a delightful finish to send the Rams to Wembley, completing a fantastic turnaround on a truly incredible night of football.
The 24-year-old striker has been on the fringes of things in recent weeks, but he was very much the hero for Derby at Elland Road, and after the match their supporters recognised that on social media.
Rams fans piled onto Twitter to show love for Marriott, and make the obvious assessment that he should be a starter when their side take on Aston Villa for a place in the Premier League next season.

In all seriousness Mason Mount and Jack Marriott got us through that. Mount had an insane 2nd half performance and Marriott the natural finisher we know of. He HAS to start in the final #dcfc

Keogh dropping Bamford and then bombing it 60 yards to play one touch football with Jack Marriott will stay with me forever. The grandkids will see this moment. #DCFC 🐑
