Wolves have appeared as shock contenders in the race to sign Ruben Dias from Benfica, according to a report published by the Express and Star.
The 22-year-old is a rising star and was one of the best young talents in the Portuguese top-flight last season as he went on to make 32 appearances, scoring three goals and recording one assist.
The player has been strongly linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester United.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves side have strong links to Dias’s agent Jorge Mendes, who has helped them to secure a number of quality players during recent years.
In addition to this, the prospect of playing under Nuno could be something that will be attractive to the Portugal international.
The reported Wolves target may also be attracted by the possibility of playing alongside fellow Portugal internationals Rui Patricio, Ruben Neves as well as Joao Moutinho.
Wolves are looking to bolster their side next season as they prepare for Europa League football and to launch a challenge for a top six position.
Nuno’s side have so far been fairly quiet in the transfer market with their only activity so far being making the loan deals of Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker permanent deals.
The only problem which Wolves could encounter is that the player has a release clause of £57 million.
If they do however manage to bring in Dias, it will prove that they can compete against the so-called elite sides in terms of competing for quality players and will prove that they are serious about making an impact in Europe next season.
