West Ham United are interested in Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes but are unlikely to sign the star as they have been priced out of a move for the Portuguese star, according to The Daily Mail.

The Hammers are in the market for January recruits as David Moyes’ squad has been depleted by injuries of late.

Gomes was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur over the last six months, with Spurs believed to have missed out on the Barcelona man in the summer.

West Ham are looking for creativity as both Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic are on the sidelines for the foreseeable future after suffering injuries.

The Daily Mail state that Moyes’ men are exploring the possibility of a loan deal for Gomes, but Barcelona want to sell the midfielder – and would require a £30 million fee to allow him to leave.

Tottenham were linked with the Portuguese star in the summer but Spurs have not been mentioned as a possible suitor during the January transfer window.

West Ham have improved significantly since Moyes has taken over at the London Stadium, but the Hammers are still not out of the relegation fight, despite moving up the table in recent weeks.

Signing someone of Gomes’ stature would be a big boost to the club, but the Irons would need to smash their club transfer record to land him.

Tottenham are also believed to be in the market for new players but whether they will revisit their interest in the Barcelona man remains to be seen.
