West Ham United head to St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday evening to take on Southampton in a huge Premier League match, but they will be without four players for the journey.
The Hammers are in the middle of a really rough patch of form, not helped by injuries it has to be said, and are in danger of dropping into the bottom three should things not go to plan for them in Hampshire.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has had to continually shuffle his pack this term, to deal with the amount of absent players he has had to endure, but even then he has a decent enough squad that should be doing better than they are.
Four of those players have been out for some time, with Lukasz Fabianski, Winston Reid, Jack Wilshere and Manuel Lanzini all significant absences recently, and the Chilean has provided an update on where they currently stand.
“Lukasz Fabianski is continuing with his recovery, the same as Manu Lanzini,” The Hammers official website quotes him as saying.
“Winston Reid is playing and working without any problems.”
“Jack Wilshere continues to have some pain in his groin,”
You would think losing is not an option for West Ham, as they would drop below their opponents if they do so, and confidence would be so low that the Londoners could encounter a lot of issues over the upcoming Christmas period.
Although Pellegrini would prefer to have those four key Hammers stars back, he has a number of wonderful options at his disposal, he just needs to get the best out of them.
If West Ham needs a boost heading into the encounter, they can find it in the knowledge that they haven’t beaten any other team in the Premier League more times than they have won against the Saints.
