A West Ham United source has rubbished rumours that the club are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez, according to the Claret and Hugh website.
Reports emerged earlier in the week that the Hammers were eyeing up the former Sevilla and Valencia ace, as Manuel Pellegrini looks to bolster his squad in light of the horrendous run of injuries he has encountered this term, but it appears there may be no truth in the link.
West Ham are currently operating without creative playmakers Manuel Lanzini, Jack Wilshere and Andriy Yarmolenko due to injury, and although Samir Nasri has come in to help in their absence, the Chilean is looking for further signings, not just to add quality to his ranks, but also depth too.
Suarez has been restricted to the fringes of things at Barcelona this term, appearing just four times, and each of those spells coming from the substitutes’ bench, which potentially gave the Hammers the option to lure him to London with the offer of regular football.
It was believed that West Ham were ready to offer the Catalans giants £20 million for the services of the Spain international, but a source inside the London Stadium poured scorn on that notion.
The Hammers did plenty of work in terms of reinforcing their squad in the summer, and as such it could be a quiet January window for the Hammers, despite Pellegrini’s need for numbers to keep them competitive through until the end of the campaign.
West Ham’s board are not known for releasing the grip on the purse strings too regularly, and given the large outlay prior to the season beginning, the former Manchester City boss may need to deal in free transfers, or use the loan market if he is to make the sufficient additions to his playing personnel this month.
