West Ham United have made an approach to sign Newcastle United right-back Daryl Janmaat, according to The Daily Mail.
The Hammers have struggled to fill the full-back role over the last 12 months, with winger Michail Antonio asked to play out of position in defence of late.
The former Nottingham Forest wideman gave away a penalty in the recent 2-1 defeat against Chelsea, highlighting that Slaven Bilic’s men need a more natural option in the position.

Newcastle were relegated last season and as such a number of their players have already left St James’ Park or are expected to depart before the transfer window closes.
Janmaat is an experienced operator and would fit into West Ham’s philosophy of getting their full-backs forward as attacking weapons.
The Netherlands international would surely be interested in returning to the English top flight, with the report suggesting that talks over a transfer are underway.
Newcastle have Rafa Benitez’s summer signing Jesus Gamez to feature at right-back should Janmaat leave.
