Cheikou Kouyate has swapped West Ham United for Crystal Palace in a £9.5 million move and Hammers fans have mixed views over his departure.
The 28-year-old central midfielder arrived at Upton Park from Anderlecht in 2014, going on to make 147 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals.

While his early time at the club was marked by a string of impressive performances, he now faces criticism from West Ham fans of being unable to play at a consistently high level.
Kouyate cited the need for a new challenge as one of the reasons for heading to Selhurst Park; Hammers fans largely agree, some claiming he had gone “stale” during his time with them.
Other analysts point out that he would struggle to fit in with the style of play required by new manager Manuel Pellegrini.
As the transfer window moves towards its conclusion, signing Kouyate could be a good move by Palace boss Roy Hodgson.
He will add some steel to his midfield and he joins fellow ex-West Ham man James Tomkins in the Eagles squad.
Kouyate moving to join another London club irked some Hammers supporters, although on the other hand, some were impressed that they were able to command the fee they got for the Senegal international.
West Ham fans can afford not to be too upset about his departure and not just due to a perceived drop in performance over recent seasons.
As Pellegrini has already brought in Jack Wilshere and a host of other players including Andriy Yarmalenko and Felipe Andersen, there is a case for arguing that Kouyate’s departure does not weaken his squad too much.
Nevertheless, some are sad to see him go, lauding his commitment and passion while at the club, even if his performances occasionally fell short of what they wanted to see.
Here are the best of those tweets.
Ngl I didn't rate Kouyate at all

Been saying this for a while – Kouyate had gone stale, and needed a fresh challenge. Hopefully he's not good for the Ultras though… https://t.co/CEjpY4oe7Q

When Kouyate first joined us, he was an absolute tank… Got injured? He'd stay on. He'd make lung-busting runs. He'd break up play and give it to attackers. But for past 2 years, it's just gone sour haha.

Kouyate laziest Centre Mid we've had for years. He got found out on a big pitch. Thanks but glad he's going.

Not sad that we sold Kouyate just unhappy it was to Palace

There are a lot of haters on Twitter regarding Kouyate but I think it was the right time for him to move. 2 seasons ago he was a massive influence on our midfield, and a definite starter for us. Played Yaya of the park at Upton park. Good luck Cheik ⚽️👏👍

Oh what could have been had he been able to pass more than 5 yards and if the defensive side of his game, when playing in midfield, was much better. Kouyate was a good signing, but it was time to try and find an upgrade and move on https://t.co/rNxbFS7OD1

Think Kouyate leaving is what's right for the club at this point in time. Had good times for us but was turning into bit of a donkey

Sad to see Kouyate go but I lost count of the times he lost his man and we conceded as a result.
That being said you just know he’ll bloody smash it at Palace and bang in a hat-trick against us!

Kouyate has gone and I'm sure it's the right decision. Very good the 1st couple off seasons and score the 1st ever goal at the new stadium but slowly went backwards last season non existent. Good player when he is in the mood

Genuinely gutted to see Kouyate leave
— Tom (@TWLSF) August 2, 2018
Gutted it didn't work out with Kouyate. Didn't want him going to a rival club either.
When he is at the top of his game he's a beast but his form the last season and half has been nothing short of dreadful. I'm not suprised he's gone. Just wish he grafted a bit more…

I’m not happy about Kouyate leaving. To Palace of all clubs 🤦🏼♂️ deserves better

Kouyate isn't the same player that first arrived for us. Became lazy, clumsy & wasn't great in the air. He worked hard enough compared to a lot of players & did a job that no one else wanted to do & broke down opp play. Gave his all & wore heart on sleeve. Good luck @PapiCheikhou

As much as I think it's best for Kouyate, I am gonna miss seeing him in a West Ham shirt. ❤️
