West Ham United fans were captivated by a piece of magic from Dimitri Payet on Saturday in their side’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough, with the French attacker salvaging the side’s blushes and ensuring the hosts picked up a point.

However, it was Slaven Bilic’s team selection that had a few eyebrows being raised, with two members of the front three in particular evoking comment from the club’s supporter base on Twitter.

Michail Antonio, who has been one of the rare bright sparks for the London club this season, started the game as the team’s striker – showing just how dire the need for a centre forward has become.

The former Nottingham Forest man is usually a winger but has also been playing at right-back to plug a hole in the West Ham ranks.

Gokhan Tore also got the nod to play but had another ineffective game for the Irons, with the supporters questioning the merits of playing the Turkey international.

West Ham’s fans took to Twitter to vent their thoughts, with Antonio being likened to Gareth Bale in some quarters and Tore receiving unreserved criticism.
