West Ham United have failed in an attempt to land Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on loan in January, according to The Daily Mail.

The Hammers are struggling for goals and are being tipped to make a major effort to sign a significant number nine next month when the transfer window reopens.

Batshuayi was a reported target for Slaven Bilic’s men over the summer but the Belgium international moved to Chelsea from Marseille in a big-money deal.

However, with Diego Costa in unplayable form, the recruit has had to watch on from the sidelines and has only received fleeting opportunities to show what he is capable of at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham are believed to have enquired about Batshuayi’s availability and launched a loan proposal, but Chelsea have rejected this, according to the report.

The Belgian centre forward looks likely to get a chance to play in the Premier League leaders’ next game, against Bournemouth, as Costa is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

  1. I’m always amazed that class players are willing to sacrifice their careers for money. Both Batshuayi and Remy before him turned down moves to EPL clubs where they would have been playing every week just to warm Chelea’s bench. Such a waste.

    • Have to agree Shane – Batshauyi would be playing week-in, week-out at West Ham but not be earning as much money – what is more important – ££££ or playing football? Reckon he would have scored 15+ in the Premier League for West Ham this season
