West Ham United have reportedly joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, according to a report published by Italian source Gazzetta dello Sport.
The experienced attacker was one of the star performers for Croatia during the 2018 World Cup as the European nation defied the odds and went on to reach the final of the tournament in Russia, which they lost against France.
The 30-year-old has reportedly decided to leave Inter and could be set to move on this summer, with West Ham and Tottenham attractive options for him.
If he does move on, it is likely that the Serie A giants will demand a hefty fee as the player is on contract with them until the summer of 2022.
It is not hard to see why Perisic may want to move on from Inter and consider any offers from Tottenham or West Ham.
The Italian club has struggled to have sustained runs in the Champions League since they won the tournament under Jose Mourinho back in 2010. At this stage of his career, he will be looking to join a team which regularly advances to the deep stages of the Champions League.
This however may mean that it could be likely that he will choose a club such as Tottenham over West Ham.
The Lilywhites are challenging to compete in Europe’s Premier club competition. By contrast, the best thing that West Ham may be able to offer Perisic is the chance to compete in the Europa League.
This will however only happen if West Ham’s form manages to undergo a revival between now and the end of the season.
