West Bromwich Albion could add impressive Belgian defender Nicolas Lombaerts to Tony Pulis’ squad before the end of the January transfer window, with a £5 million deal in the offing, according to The Sun.
The Baggies boss has been vocal in his desire for the Hawthorns outfit to strengthen their group mid-season, with the former Stoke City boss not possessing the desired strength in depth currently.
West Brom have overachieved this season but for the Midlands side to continue their strong form, the impetus provided by new faces looks necessary.
Lombaerts is on the books of Russian side Zenit St Petersburg but has fallen down the pecking order at the eastern European club, leading to speculation over his future.
The 31-year-old is a 39-cap veteran for Belgium and would provide a dominant figure at centre-half for the Premier League side.
West Brom are currently reliant on a number of experienced campaigners at the back such as Jony Evans, Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley, with the potential addition of Lombaerts a real boost for the Baggies should it happen.
