‘We’re going to need him’ – Gerrard names Rangers fringe man that has big role to play

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has urged Sheyi Ojo to go on and become and important player for the Ibrox giants during the second half of the season.

The 22-year-old, who is with the Gers on loan from Liverpool, has largely struggled for consistency this season.

Ojo has however showed moments of brilliance at Rangers and did even manage to score a stunning goal against Feyenoord during a Europa League fixture in September.

Things took a downward spiral for the loanee towards the end of 2019 as he was sometimes not even named on the Rangers bench.

Gerrard has said that he was happy with Ojo’s performance during the player’s cameo appearance in the 1-0 win over St Mirren on Wednesday night.

“I was really pleased with Sheyi’s cameo. That’s the most positive I’ve seen him for quite a while,” Gerrard told RangersTV.

“Hopefully he’s going to kick back into a bit of form because we’re going to need him and he’s going to help us.”

Ojo has certainly so far not done his chances of being included in the Liverpool first-team squad going forward any good.

He will need to significantly improve at Rangers if he still hopes to one day be included in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Rangers have a good chance to lift the Scottish Premiership trophy this season for the first time in almost a decade.

Things are currently very tight between themselves and Rangers as they trail Celtic by just two points.

The Gers are currently on a good run of form after having won their previous five consecutive league games which included a 2-1 away victory against Celtic.

The game against St Mirren was however very tight and proved that Rangers still have plenty of improvement to make.

Jermain Defoe scored the only goal of the game and Gerrard’s side struggled to create chances on a regular basis.
