Watford are due to play against Everton in a Carabao Cup encounter at Goodison Park on Tuesday night, with the Vicarage Road outfit hoping to put their poor league form to one side.
The game on Merseyside will feature two out of form sides facing off against each other.
On paper, Watford will go into the clash as the under-dogs considering that they are playing away from home.
Quique Sanchez Flores’s Hornets side should fancy their chances though, as they will be playing against an Everton outfit that has so far been unimpressive in 2019-20.
Watford look like they will be in the relegation scrap this season and as such the Vicarage Road outfit may decide to prioritise league fixtures instead.
A win however could be a big confidence boost for the club as they look to kick-start their season.
The priority for Flores will be Watford’s upcoming Premier League game against Chelsea next weekend.
They really need to start getting points as soon as possible if they want to avoid relegation this season.
Watford may use the game as an opportunity to give players from the U-23 side an opportunity, according to the club’s official website.
The source added that the likes of Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Troy Deeney, Etienne Capoue, Ismaila Sarr and Isaac Success are expected to miss the game at Goodison Park.
The likes of Heurelho Gomes, Domingos Quina, Dimitri Foulqiuer, Adrian Mariappa, Andre Gray and Will Hughes will be expected to play a part in the game.
This will be a good opportunity for Watford’s fringe players to also prove that they should be considered for Premier League selection.
