Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is eyeing up a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, with The Telegraph stating that the clubs are in ‘advanced talks’ over a potential January deal.
The 23-year-old is a product of the famous Old Trafford youth academy but he is yet to make his Premier League debut for the Red Devils.
With David De Gea and Sergio Romero ahead of him in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order, the former England under-20 international has spent most of his career out on loan.
Johnstone is currently with Preston North End and he has also featured for the likes of Doncaster Rovers, Yeovil Town and Walsall in recent seasons.
Villa re expected to be busy in the transfer window next month and the report suggests that Bruce is not fully convinced with his options between the sticks.
It also states that the new Midlands boss wants to make Johnstone his first signing as the club’s manager and that the custodian is being eyed to help Villa’s push back towards Premier League football.
