Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has refused to divulge if the club will try to sign Liverpool midfielder James Milner, as quoted in Tuttomercatoweb.
Milner, who started his professional club football career at Leeds, is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season.
It remains to be seen if the 33-year-old – who can operate as a midfielder, winger or full-back – is offered a new contract by the Reds, who won the Champions League title last season and are at the top of the Premier League table at the moment.
Orta has been asked directly if Leeds will make a move for the former Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester City midfielder – who earns £140,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com.
Orta told Tuttomercatoweb when asked about a summer move for Milner: “No, no, I don’t say anything about the names.”
Summer move to Leeds United?
It is hard to see Milner drop down a level and join Leeds in the Championship, but if Marcelo Bielsa’s side clinch promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season, then perhaps next summer the Englishman could consider a return to Elland Road.
