Manchester United drew 1-1 with Liverpool in their return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon, and after the match their fans were full of praise for an unlikely hero.

The Red Devils went into the bitter rivalry clash with hopes of a result arguably as low as they have ever been against the Merseyside outfit, but the doom and gloom ended up being misplaced, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men delivered a positive performance, and almost took all three points.

United looked to be struggling for form prior to the international break, so it was perceived that the last thing they needed was for the rampant Reds to be heading into Old Trafford.

That gave the Red Devils players the opportunity to be the first group to take points off Liverpool this season, a chance that they didn’t pass up after a positive first-half display, before holding on for a point after the break.

Marcus Rashford gave United the lead as half time approached in the contest. The England international tapped home a wonderful cross by Daniel James, which put the ball on a plate for the forward to dispatch into the net.

The Red Devils huffed and puffed after the break but couldn’t extend their lead, and were pegged back inside the last 10 minutes, when Adam Lallana ghosted in at the back stick to draw Liverpool level, with the match petering out into a draw after that.

There were many more positive displays from players in United shirts than was expected, and one of those came from Andreas Pereira, a man with all the talent needed to success at Old Trafford, but who hasn’t yet added the consistency to match it.

The Red Devils fans enjoyed his performance on Sunday however, with many taking to social media after the match to praise him for his output.
