Premier League leaders Liverpool make the trip to the capital on Monday night to take on West Ham United in a huge match, but they will be without a couple of defenders for the contest.
The Reds head to the London Stadium having seen their lead at the top of the table reduced to two points, and they will be hoping to extend that back to five once again with a victory.
Liverpool have been the dominant force in the Premier League this term, but they were held by Leicester City in their previous match, and were they to fail to win this, Manchester City would be right on their heels in the title race once again.
With that in mind, the Reds will be desperate to win against Manuel Pellegrini’s men, but if they are to pick up three points they will have to do so without Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Jurgen Klopp provided an update over the latter when the Liverpool boss addressed the media ahead of the contest.
“Trent is getting better and better and better,” the Reds official website quote him as saying
“He is really close and I hope he is in full training next week, but not for Monday.”
Gomez appears to be out indefinitely, which means that Virgil van Dijk will have either Joel Matip or Dejan Lovren alongside him at the heart of the Liverpool defence.
One man who will be back for the Reds to take on the Hammers, is versatile midfielder James Milner. The experienced England international missed the draw with Leicester through suspension, but having served his ban he will return, and could be the man to fit back into the vacant right-back role.
Liverpool overwhelmed West Ham on the opening weekend of the season, and they will be out to do likewise here, to show Manchester City that they are coping well with the pressure of staying out in front in the title picture.
