Tottenham Hotspur travels to Spain to take on Real Madrid in their Champions League Group H match on Tuesday night and could be set to recall Danny Rose back to action.

The England left-back has joined the squad for the short trip across Europe having missed almost ten months with a serious knee injury.

Rose injured his knee during their fixture with Sunderland last January and has not been able to feature for Spurs at all since, leaving Mauricio Pochettino’s men short on the left side of the field.

However, the Argentine has revealed that the defender will be named amongst the substitutes for the White Hart Lane outfits group match against former stars Gareth Bale and Luka Modric, in their third game of the competition.

“Danny Rose will be on the bench – that’s important, maybe he’s not fit to play from the beginning but to help the team,” Pochettino told the club’s official website.

“It’s very good for the team, good for him after nearly 10 months away and it’s always important that players feel they can be involved and part of the team.”

The manager also revealed that his other option at left-back, Ben Davies, has not travelled with the squad to the Spanish capital, as he continues to recover from illness, which had seen him miss the weekend victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Dele Alli has decided to stay with the first-team as they prepare for their giant clash with Real Madrid despite his suspension, as the fixture is the last in a three-game European ban for the sending off he received in the Europa League last season, whilst Mousa Dembele has recovered from a knock and is available for selection.

Pochettino also confirmed that Erik Lamela and Victor Wanyama have remained at the training ground as they look to continue their recoveries from the injuries currently sidelining them.

“Mousa Dembele is here as well,” he added.

“Dele wanted to come and stay with the team. We have injured players like (Erik) Lamela, still recovering and (Victor) Wanyama back at the training ground.”
