Tottenham Hotspur attacker Lucas Moura has come out with a shock accusation aimed at former boss Mauricio Pochettino.
The Spurs winger has been one of a number of players to have benefitted from Jose Mourinho taking over at the New Tottenham Stadium last week, featuring in both matches the Portuguese has been in charge of, and impressing in both.
Moura was in and out of the Tottenham side under Pochettino, and will be hoping for a more regular run now that the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has taken charge of the club.
When the Brazil international did feature under the recently ousted boss, he was often utilised as a number nine, particularly when Spurs star Harry Kane was out injured, but he has revealed that was not a position he enjoyed.
Moura could not be happier with where he is being played under Mourinho, and the Tottenham ace wasted no time in making that known.
“I am happy he likes me and he said it, it is very important to me to have this confidence from the coach and I hope to help him, help the team,” TeamTalk quotes him as saying.
“I will always give my best and I am happy for the opportunity he has given me. I think everyone knows him. I don’t need to speak about him because he is a winner, a champion.
“He has a lot of trophies and I am sure he has much to bring for us and to add to our team, our club.
“Every player wants to play, it doesn’t matter the position. But everyone knows I am not a No.9, it is not my best position.
“When Pochettino put me there I always gave my best because for me the most important thing is the team but each coach has one opinion, a different mind.
“Now I feel very good in this position (as a wide player). I always played in this position, I feel good and I am happy.”
Moura was on the scoresheet for Tottenham in their win over West Ham United on Saturday, and played a key role in them overturning a 2-0 deficit against Olympiakos on Tuesday. He will be looking to maintain his form when the Londoners host Bournemouth this weekend.
