Liverpool plan to sign Norwich City’s Jacob Murphy in January before loaning him back to the club for the rest of the season, according to the Mirror.

The move is an attempt to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the highly-rated winger and Jurgen Klopp is optimistic he can prise the 21-year-old away from Carrow Road.

The news will come as a blow to Mauricio Pochettino who is reportedly a huge fan of Murphy and will use the example of Dele Alli from MK Dons to suggest Spurs are the best team for youngsters to progress within the Premier League.

Liverpool still remain favourites to sign the academy product as Norwich will not want to lose one of their best players half way through the season when they are still in the hunt for promotion.

Murphy has bagged five goals and five assists for Alex Neil’s team this campaign and they currently lie in ninth place, just five points off a play-off spot.
