Tottenham Hotspur have declared Everton’s Ross Barkley as their number one target this summer, according to The Mirror.

The 23-year-old has recently recovered from a shaky start under the tenure of Blues boss Ronald Koeman, but the 53-year-old still seems uncertain regarding the England international’s best position.

The Toffees academy graduate is under contract at Goodison Park until 2018, however Mauricio Pochettino is prepared to bring the Liverpool-born man to North London in a deal estimated to be over £30million.

It is thought that Barkely would come in as replacement to flop Moussa Sissoko – who has struggled to breaking into the starting XI at White Hart Lane since his big money move from Newcastle United.

The 27-year-old was moments away from joining Everton on transfer deadline day last summer, but an equalling £30m bid from Tottenham was enough to prize the Frenchman away from the clasp of the north west club.

It is possible that the 2016 European Championships star could be part of the deal that would bring another young English star into Pochettino’s squad alongside Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier.
