Tottenham Hotspur are set to soon close in on the signing of Fenerbahce midfielder Eljif Elmas, according to a report published by Superhaber TV’s Levent Umit Erol.
Spurs will be looking to bring in new players this summer. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have not added a new player to their squad during the past two transfer windows.
While Tottenham have exceeded expectations in light of this, they need to bring in reinforcements this summer if they want to challenge for major silverware as well as the Premier League title.
One of the areas which Spurs boss Pochettino needs to bolster in particular is his midfield after Mousa Dembele left the club for the Chinese Super League in January.
Reported Tottenham target Elmas has yet to set tails wagging however he has tremendous potential. The youngster has so far made 23 appearances in the Super Lig this season and scored one goal.
Spurs have a good reputation when it comes to their treatment of young talent and this is something which will no doubt appeal to Elmas.
The player is contracted to Fenerbahce until the summer of 2022, however, it is likely that the Turkish giants will be willing to sell the player at a reasonable price as they need to sell players in order to comply with FIFA Financial Fair Play regulations.
The report however adds that Spurs could face competition in the race to sign Elmas. He has reportedly also attracted interest from Premier League clubs Leicester City and Cardiff City. He has also been linked with Serie A club Fiorentina.
