A report published by Italian source ll Messaggero has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have made an inquiry for AC Milan’s Franck Kessie.
While the all-action midfielder has been linked with other clubs as well, the report added that the Lilywhites have made their interest known by making an actual approach for the player.
The 22-year-old Kessie is one of the most highly-rated central midfielders in the Serie A. He will surely be tempted to move away from Milan this summer if the fallen Italian giants once again fail to secure Champions League football.
Currently in fifth place on the Italian top-flight, Milan are likely to end up competing against the likes of Lazio and rivals Inter Milan for a place in the Champions League.
Tottenham are in need of additional strength in depth if they are compete for major honours, with the centre of midfield one area that the club have had issues in at times this season.
With injuries preventing the likes of Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele from building momentum, Spurs’ first-choice boiler room pairing is now Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko.
If such a deal were to go ahead, Kessie would be a great addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham side. He would also be a perfect candidate to replace the aging and injury-prone Dembele.
However, with the significant cost of a new stadium constantly in the mindset, it remains to be seen if Spurs will shell out the required fee to make a deal a reality.
