Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Ajax sensation Frenkie de Jong as a possible replacement for Christian Eriksen, according to a report published by The Mirror.
The 26-year-old Tottenham Star has established himself as one of the most talented creative players in the Premier League; if he does leave Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs squad, replacing him will not be an easy task.
The 21-year-old de Jong is one of the most highly-rated young central midfielders in Europe. So far this season, he has played 15 Eredivisie games for Ajax, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
He is currently earning a modest wage in Holland and looks destined to leave his homeland next summer and move to one of Europe’s top five leagues.
Tottenham could face a tough time luring the Netherlands international to North London as a number of clubs, including French giants PSG, are also reportedly interested in his services.
Spurs will have to spend big if they want to recruit de Jong.
Their current transfer record fee paid for a player is the £42 million which they splashed to bring in Davinson Sanchez from Ajax during the summer of 2017.
If they do manage to lure the player, he could prove to be a good investment in the long-term.
With Mousa Dembele’s time at Tottenham looking like it is coming to an end and Victor Wanyama struggling with injuries, De Jong would be a signing to excite the Spurs fans.
