Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign Ajax Amsterdam sensation Donny van de Beek, but could have to pay a club-record £45 million to land him, according to a report published by The Daily Mail.
Spurs are set to have a very interesting summer transfer window. They are likely to have a few big-name departures. Due to the fact that Tottenham have not signed any players during the past two transfer windows, it will be of utmost importance for them to bring in new talent this summer.
Should Spurs make a bid for Van de Beek, they may have to compete with the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, the report adds.
One big advantage that Tottenham could have in the race to sign the player is the fact that they have a good relationship with the Dutch giants, having previously signed Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez from them.
Ajax have had a stellar season which has seen them reach the semi-finals of this seasons Champions League. Impressively, they managed to knock out Juventus and Real Madrid out of this seasons Champions League and will be the favourites to prevail over Tottenham this week after winning the first leg 1-0 against the English side last week.
The Eredivisie side could have difficulty to keep the bulk of their side following their impressive displays this season. Nicolas Tagliafico has vowed to stay with them and Ajax are hopeful that Dusan Tadic will opt to stay with them. They are set to lose Kasper Dohlberg while Hakim Ziyech is also reportedly being monitored by other clubs.
