Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing West Bromwich Albion right-back Nathan Ferguson, according to a report which was published by The Sun.
Spurs have been struggling this season and were lucky to escape with a draw against struggling Watford over the weekend.
Tottenham clearly do need to make changes to their squad in January if they want to see significant improvement.
One of the problem areas for Spurs has been the right-back position.
Nobody has really stood out in the position since Kieran Trippier left the North Londoners during the summer and linked up with Atletico Madrid.
The 19-year-old Ferguson broke into the Baggies first-team this year. He has so far played ten league games for his club, scoring one goal and has reportedly attracted positive reviews from scouts.
The report added that Tottenham could be set to make an £10 million bid for the player.
Ferguson is currently playing some good football. Like most footballers, he probably has dreams of playing for a leading club in the Premier League and a move to Spurs would thus be a major step up for him.
It however will remain to be seen whether he would get regular playing time with Mauricio Pochettino’s side during the second half of the season if he were to move.
If Spurs do not manage to improve significantly over the next few weeks and if Ferguson were to join the Lilywhites in January, one could argue that he could stand a chance of getting regular playing time.
In that case, last season’s Champions League runners-up would have no choice but to try out different players.
