Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is hoping to sign a new long-term contract with the club as he is happy at White Hart Lane – in excellent news for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

The English striker is in talks with the North London club over an extension, but reports in the press had suggested that negotiations had stalled.

Rivals Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation and are ready to swoop for the forward if he does not reach an agreement.

The 23–year-old was a central part of Pochettino’s team last season, winning the Golden Boot with 25 Premier League goals and helping Spurs mount a challenge for the title.

Kane, who guided his side to a 3-2 victory over West Ham United at the weekend with a brace in the last few minutes of the match, insists he is happy at the club and is looking to extend his contract, which runs out in 2020.

“I’m happy at the club. A lot of people are going to speculate about contracts but I am happy – you saw me out there (on Saturday),” he told Sky Sports.

“There’s not many better feelings than being at White Hart Lane and scoring in a London derby.

“So yeah, I am happy at the club and want to be here for a long, long time.

“We are in talks and I’m sure we will get something sorted. I’m not panicking and I’m not demanding anything as I’ve read in the paper.

“We’re having a conversation and I have no doubts that we will get it sorted. As I say, I want to be here for a long time and I am sure I will be.”

Kane believes the speculation surrounding his future shows that he is in great form.

“I think it shows that I am doing well, for one thing,” he explained.

“I am happy here. Hopefully we will have no issues with the contract – we have only just started talking about it. Get that down and get that wrapped up.

“I’m fully concentrated on playing for Tottenham and winning for Tottenham and I think there are no doubts after West Ham that my mind is anywhere else.

“We’ve got a great young team, new training ground, new stadium being built, great young manager. The future is very bright.

“It’s important that we keep hold of all our players and keep building on this great team that we have. For us now it’s about winning trophies and competitions – that’s the next step.”
