Tottenham Hotspur have been told that they will have to pay £8 million if they want to sign young defender Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham, The Sun report.

The North London club have placed an emphasis on young players since Mauricio Pochettino took over at White Hart Lane and have a squad full of youthful talents.

Spurs have had joy in recruiting from the Football League recently, with Dele Alli a sensation last season after moving from MK Dons.

Sessegnon is a 16-year-old left-back that has only just made his debut at Craven Cottage but has a lofty reputation due to his exploits at England age-grade level.

Fulham are said to be keen to hold onto their teenage prodigy, with a £3 million offer from Tottenham already rejected.

Spurs will have to up their bid if Sessegnon is to move across London, with Pochettino already having Danny Rose and Ben Davies as options at left-back this season.

The 16-year-old became the youngest goalscorer in the history of The Championship after netting against Cardiff City recently.

  1. If this young man is as good as witnesses are saying then he must be worth spending the time negotiating with Fulham with money and or a player swap, i.e., Tom Carrol, Nathan Oduwa? No offence to Fulham and I am being very bias, I feel Ryan Sessegnon would benefit more learning his craft under the guidance of the Spurs Academy and training with the first team. Place him along side Marcus Edwards, Shayon Harrison, Harry Winks, Carter-Vickers and help him develope the right temperament, work ethic to become a major player. As his physical growth builds so will his mind and his talent. The future isn’t going to come to us cheaply. In addition, I would approve the acquisition of Chris Powell to coach the Academy players and or the under 21’s. I think he would be the right voice to carry the Pochittino philosophy to the youngsters. Any thoughts?

  2. Id say £6-7m would be sufficient to get him (or do a player swap). I suspect if he did come in, Davies would get pushed out for transfer eventually…
