Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Redknapp has stated that Dele Alli’s spectacular volleyed goal against Crystal Palace last year was better than Olivier Giroud’s effort on Sunday against the same opposition.
The French forward showed immense flexibility and skill to score against the Eagles, with the North London hosts winning 2-0 in the Premier League clash.
However, Redknapp has not bought into the growing hype of Giroud’s strike, claiming that there was an element of luck in the goal and that it did not make his list of best Premier League goals.
On the other hand, the pundit stated that Alli’s acrobatic volleyed strike against the Eagles last year was one of his highlights of the modern era.
“I am taking nothing away from Giroud but his strike does not make my top 20 Premier League goals,” he wrote in The Daily Mail.
“There is always an element of luck with those sorts of goals.
“As good as it was, I wouldn’t put it in the same bracket Thierry Henry’s volley against Manchester United, Wayne Rooney’s overhead kick against Manchester City or Dele Alli’s flick and volley last year against Crystal Palace.”
Tottenham started 2017’s Premier League action with an impressive 4-1 win over Watford at Vicarage Road, with Alli putting in a masterclass and scoring twice in the rout.
The England international will surely be part of the Spurs side that takes on current Premier League leaders Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
