Tottenham Hotspur suffered defeat in the North London Derby against arch-rivals Arsenal on Saturday, however, fans still took to social media to praise one of their men after his performance.
Spurs found themselves behind from a Shkodran Mustafi header in the 36th minute, before Alexis Sanchez struck the final blow to Mauricio Pochettino’s team before the half-time whistle.
Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen had rattled the post with an effort before the German headed home past Hugo Lloris, however, the visitors never managed to get going.
The Spurs coaching staff where clearly irate with the match officials from the sidelines, as they had felt Mike Dean had continued to give decisions to the Gunners that should not have been, however, that should not take away from the fact their star players failed to show up.
Having been withdrawn from international duty through injury, Tottenham attacking pair Harry Kane and Dele Alli had both struggled to get a foothold into the tie with many expectant before the game for them to be the difference.
Spurs fans, despite the defeat and loss of bragging rights to their North London counterparts, did find something to be happy about after the match, with Davinson Sanchez catching the eye of many on social media.
The Colombia international, who joined Tottenham in the summer from Ajax, was singled out by many of the White Hart Lane faithful as being their best player on the pitch by a mile and if it was not for his performance, they could have suffered a heavier defeat.
The Spurs defender was unfortunate to have conceded the free-kick in the first half that led to Mustafi’s goal, as it looked as though he won the ball cleanly with an inch-perfect tackle, however, Dean adjudged it to be a foul.
Here are some of the reactions from the Tottenham fans on Twitter:
Davinson Sanchez has been pure class today

Only bright spot for me was Davinson Sanchez. He was fantastic today and wrongfully whistled for a foul that led to the first goal.

There was one Spurs player I was impressed with today, and also in other games this season – Davinson Sanchez. A really good player who will be important for Spurs. Unfortunately.
