Tottenham Hotspur slumped to a 2-1 defeat against French side Monaco in their opening Champions League fixture of 2016-17 on Wednesday night.
The London side had over 84,000 fans at Wembley for the clash, but the Ligue 1 side spoiled the celebrations by taking all three Group A points.
Following the 4-0 win over Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday, manager Mauricio Pochettino had some tough personnel decisions to make.
The Argentine opted to retain Son Heun-min in his side after the South Korean netted a brace against the Potters, while Erik Lamela was also recalled.
Victor Wanyama was the man to make way, with Dele Alli dropping into central midfield to play alongside Eric Dier.
Despite the attacking intent by Pochettino, the system failed to pay dividends and it appears a case that the Spurs boss had too many attacking-minded players in the same team.
Tottenham fans took to Twitter to vent their thoughts on Wanyama’s omission, with the majority claiming that the Kenyan powerhouse should have been in the home side’s boiler room to add brawn and energy.
Here are the best tweets.
Sissoko. Janssen. Son. Wanyama. Poch need to give them early responsibilities. Hell. We won matches in UCL with Palacio/Livermore. #COYS

#UCL I don't understand why pick Ali in midfield with Dier instead of Wanyama / Dembele. #COYS #SPURS Better luck next match!

Dembele needs to be an AM. Our issue is the 3 AM's are too soft. 0 holdup. SPINE of Dier, Wanyama, Dembele & Kane = title. #COYS #softspurs

I don't believe in dropping a player from one performance (Dier) so there's no way I'd start Dembele-Wanyama

This is a game where we need players like Wanyama and Dembele in the middle of the park, absolute shambles at the moment. #COYS

Surprised not to see Wanyama starting but it's hard to drop someone who's just scored two goals. #COYS #SpursAtWembley

Kane and Dier look like they’re struggling for energy sometimes.
