Tottenham Hotspur fans have been reacting to the news that long-serving midfielder Tom Carroll has completed a move to Swansea City.

The 24-year-old came up through the ranks at White Hart Lane after signing for the academy in 2008 and will join the Welsh side on a £4.5 million deal.

Carroll never managed to establish himself in the Spurs team and has spent much of his career to date out on loan, including a season with the Swans in 2014-15.

His role during this campaign has comprised of just two League Cup starts and a late substitute appearance in the 1-0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace in August.

Since that outing against the Eagles he failed to make a matchday squad in the league, with Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and youngster Harry Winks all ahead of him in the central midfield pecking order.

The Watford-born man is a tidy footballer but perhaps lacking the necessary quality and physicality to dislodge anyone from what is a strong midfield.

It is therefore little surprise that Carroll has been moved on this month and he should be credited for seeking to play more minutes for a lesser side rather than simply picking up his wage at Tottenham.

Spurs fans have had their say on Twitter and whilst few were ruing his departure, reflections on his time at the club were certainly mixed, the best of which can be found below:
