As Manchester United begin their search for a permanent successor to Jose Mourinho, Tottenham Hotspur fans have been giving their reaction.
Inevitably, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been installed as the bookmakers’ early favourite to replace the Portuguese at Old Trafford – leading to calls for him to stay loyal to the North London club.
Reports now claim he is one of three men United have shortlisted for the role yet some Tottenham fans argue that journalists are more interested in seeing him move to United than the manager himself.
The Argentine has pledged his future to Spurs, but supporters continue to brace themselves for interest from other clubs with Real Madrid among those rumoured to be interested.
However, United’s decision to sack Mourinho earlier today means that there is now a vacancy in the Premier League that may hold some interest for Pochettino.
In the short-term, the Red Devils will appoint an interim boss with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rumoured to be in the running, but come the end of the season, they will install a new boss.
It is far too early to say whether that will be Pochettino and he has already distanced himself from the speculation by claiming he is focusing purely on the job he has to do with Spurs.
Nevertheless, Tottenham fans are already commenting that the development could put the club under pressure to back their manager in the transfer market come January.
Some are anticipating a nervous few months as they wait for confirmation that Pochettino will stay with Spurs or head north.
Others argue that him leaving Tottenham would be something of a backward step after he has put so much work in getting the team to where they are now since joining in May 2014.
Here is a selection of tweets from Spurs fans in the wake of the news that broke earlier today.
Mauricio Pochettino not killing off the Man Utd rumours could lead to two options. Daniel Levy starts to panic and back him in January or he is actually interested. Going to be a stressful 6 months 😬😬 #THFC #COYS

Tabs already flogging #Pochettino to Man U? Quelle surprise. These hacks deal only in outlandish speculation or lazy conclusions. There's nothing in between. Properly sourced, corroborated journalism is anathema to these ignorant, illiterate no-marks #stayingput #THFC #COYS .

Dear Daniel Levy:
Now, the time to back our man and to stop being tight with the purse strings!
Get the cheque book out and give Pochettino the funds and players he wants in January.

Pochettino is happily employed by an established top 4 side. He is coaching a talented unified and settled squad enjoying their best start to an EPL season and about to move into Europe's best stadium. Man U is now a basket case managers graveyard. #COYS #THFC #hesmagicyouknow

All this talk about Pochettino and Manchester United is baffling to me. Despite the money, I don’t really think I see Poch leaving Spurs just to go to a rival club. He’s not that kind of person…#THFC

The way I see it, whilst United are clearly a 'bigger club', Spurs are undeniably a better team at the moment. It would be odd for Pochettino to go to Man U at this time. If Real Madrid or Argentina national team were to come along, maybe that would be different. #THFC #COYS
