Anthony Martial has told his agent that he wants to leave Manchester United, news that has excited Tottenham Hotspur fans who would love to see him in a Spurs shirt.
Although a number of clubs will be interested in signing the France international, the Red Devils would likely prefer to sell him to a club outside of England.
However, with United also interested in buying Spurs’ central defender Toby Alderweireld, the North London club could pursue Martial as part of the deal.
The 22-year-old joined United from Monaco in 2015 and has so far made 136 appearances for the club, scoring 36 goals and contributing 26 assists.
However, Martial has gradually found opportunities harder to come by at Old Trafford, particularly since the arrival in January of Alexis Sanchez.
The Frenchman, who just missed out on being part of his country’s World Cup squad, seems to feel his best interests would be suited by a move away from United.
Tottenham, who have recently been linked with wingers including Wilfried Zaha and Malcom, could see Martial as a welcome addition to their squad.
A potential transfer would see him join wide men Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou at the club.
Martial’s ability to also play as a centre-forward would interest Spurs, who currently only have Fernando Llorente as an alternative to Harry Kane.
After his agent confirmed that talks with his current club have stalled, with United keen to keep him but the player unwilling to stay, it seems clear he will be on his way out this summer.
However, Tottenham could still face competition for Martial’s signature with London rivals Chelsea also reportedly interested.
Nevertheless, that has not stopped Spurs fans taking to Twitter and giving their views on a potential move for the Frenchman.
Need that French connection at Spurs. Ndombele and Martial.

With speculation and momentum building over the future of Anthony Martial.
Some seem to question what different aspect he can bring to the current Spurs side, sit back and watch this and you will soon realise the massive impact he could make.#THFC #COYSpic.twitter.com/luX3GAeuju

I'd take the Martial-Toby swap, seems bridges have been burnt with Alderweireld and Spurs and Martial fits the profile we need exactly.
If we could then get De Ligt from Ajax that would be great business.#THFC

Anthony Martial wants to leave Manchester United says agent…welcome to spurs says Jon 😀

It still seems fairly logical that at some point Spurs and Man U will find some common ground over Toby/Martial. I still see all this 'We Want £70 Mil' as just posturing, jostling for position. £50 mil is the number. Martial's agent just took a few £££ off his price.

Dembele & Toby out with Grealish & Martial in – great business if you ask me. The squad needs freshening up. Janssen, Llorente, N'Koudou & Sissoko all to go with a new CB & CM in will do #THFC

Keep Toby, add martial and get a DM coz it looks like dembele is off. That would be a great window imo.

And while the majority would love to see him heading to North London, there are a few who take a more sceptical view.
As much as I would love to see Anthony Martial in a Spurs shirt by the end of the transfer window I would prefer another Man Utd attacker in Marcus Rashford instead.

Anthony Martial would be a great signing… BUT, throughout Pochettino’s tenure, Spurs has become a graveyard for a pacey wide-man, with flair and a trick. Wouldn’t the money be better spent on someone he’ll actually use? #THFC #COYS #MUFC

I'd take Martial at Spurs but obviously United won't sell to us
