Hugo Lloris has been named on the 30-man shortlist for the 2016 Ballon D’or – much to the delight of Tottenham Hotspur fans.

The France captain has been in great form this year and is one of eight Premier League based players to be nominated for the prestigious award.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino recently heralded Lloris as ‘one of the world’s best’ after his display against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last week.

Following another clean sheet against Bournemouth at the weekend, it is hard to argue with that testament.

Interestingly, Lloris is the only goalkeeper from the Premier League to be nominated for the honour which was won by Lionel Messi last season.

That, of course, means that rival David de Gea missed out, much to the anger of Manchester United fans who claim their man is the best on the planet in between the sticks.

Diehard Spurs fans were quick to argue that comment – and with good reason.

Lloris now has 17 shutouts since the beginning of last season and is part of a Tottenham defence that has conceded just four league goals this term.

Having also captained his country to the Euro 2016 final this summer, the goalkeeper is surely worthy of his nomination.
