Tottenham Hotspur made history in the transfer window yesterday – but not the kind fans were hoping for.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side became the first team to ever go through an entire summer transfer window without making a single signing since the window’s introduction in 2003.
That fact has understandably irked Tottenham fans at White Hart Lane – particularly given rivals Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have all considerably strengthened their squads again this summer.
While fans will take some solace in the fact that key players Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane and Dele Alli have all stayed at the club, concerns will remain about the strength in depth available to Pochettino.
There are few arguments that Spurs have one of the best starting XI’s in the Premier League, but the quality of the reinforcements at the North London outfit is nowhere the standard of their title rivals.
Tottenham tried multiple times to get a late deal done for Aston Villa sensation Jack Grealish – but the Midlands club refused to sell their star man and now the club are left with the same set of players heading into the new campaign.

I feel for Pochettino today. Once again going to get questions about transfers and he will once again deflect them or answer in riddles. I hope he goes all Mourinho and rips the board but he is too classy and has too much respect to do that in public #THFC

When are Tottenham going to have their transfer embargo lifted by the Premier League?

#thfc We all laughed at Chelsea for finishing in Europa League places and we thought us being in CL would mean we could attract better players. Look at the players Chelsea signed and we still cant finalise a deal with a Championship player! How can you even defend Levy? 🙄

The most frustrating thing is I look at this manager and group of players with the belief we’re close to something so special.

So what that we haven't signed anyone or any Championship midfielder. We already have one of the best teams in the League and have kept every player in our squad. Everyone thought Toby and Rose were on their way out. Get behind Poch and the boys ready for our new home #COYS #THFC pic.twitter.com/dzi2YepgB9

All #THFC fans saying who can possibly come in and improve the starting 11? if there is no room for improvement then pls tell me why we finished 30 odd points behind the league winners, and in 3rd place in the league? Unless you finish first there is always room for improvement.

I do feel Levy has to address what has happened this summer! We were all told the stadium would not hinder signings! I need answers as I have spent £1500 on a new ST and thousands over the last 13 years! This feels like the end for him! #THFC

People need to understand it’s not just being upset with no signings on deadline day. It’s not just ‘would you be happy if we panic bought someone?’ We’ve had two months to add to the team & instead we go into the new season as we ended last season, whilst others strengthened.

Tottenham Hotspur have now officially become the first Premier League club to make no signings during a summer transfer window since it’s format was introduced back in 2003.
