Tottenham Hotspur’s dreams of winning a first trophy since 2008 faded away on Saturday evening as the North London side were beaten 4-2 by Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

The White Hart Lane side showed resolve to come back from a goal down on two occasions, but in the end unanswered goals from Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic decided a frenetic encounter.

Mauricio Pochettino had a number of selection decisions to make before the game and a few eyebrows were raised when Son Heung-min was fielded at left wing-back.

The South Korean attacker has been in scintillating form of late but is used to playing as a winger or forward rather than in a defensive role.

Son was culpable of giving away a penalty with the score locked at 1-1 and Spurs in the ascendancy and was replaced by Kyle Walker in the second half.

Spurs fans were quick to lament Pochettino for his decision to play the former Bayer Leverkusen man out of position on Twitter after the game.

While some criticised Son for his performance, the majority though that the Tottenham manager got his tactics wrong for the clash at Wembley.
