Tottenham Hotspur have the opportunity to open up a nine-point lead over North London rivals Arsenal if they can beat Southampton at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

The Gunners were off the boil against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and were beaten 3-1 at the Hawthorns in another blow for Arsene Wenger’s men.

Two former Spurs players contributed to the Baggies’ win over Arsenal, with Jake Livermore and Nacer Chadli both playing in the victory.

The duo both had favourable spells at White Hart Lane but found a lack of regular first-team football as enough of a reason to leave the Premier League side.

Livermore joined West Brom from Hull City in January and has recently been included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

The combative central midfielder put in a shift against Arsenal, much to the delight of the Tottenham faithful.

Chadli was one of the players bought with the money gained from Gareth Bale’s world-record sale to Real Madrid, but was never guaranteed a place in the Spurs starting XI.

Tottenham supporters took to Twitter on Saturday to hail their ‘agents’ and the role they played in Arsenal’s defeat – here are the best tweets.
