Kieran Trippier’s performance for Tottenham Hotspur in the Saturday lunchtime draw with rivals Arsenal was the subject of much discussion amongst fans on social media.

The full-back was heavily involved throughout the 90 minutes, and his display was largely considered one of the worst for Spurs in what was a frustrating North London derby for the men in white.

After a frenetic opening, the Gunners took the lead on the counter attack through Aaron Ramsey, who sprinted clear from the halfway line before rounding Hugo Lloris and slotting home.

The goal was a double blow given that seconds earlier, Harry Kane had been through for Tottenham on the right of the area, before being tackled to set up the break.

Tottenham twice came close before the break, with Bernd Leno making a superb double save to deny first Christian Eriksen and then Moussa Sissoko.

The Lilywhites eventually found their equaliser in the second period, but it was not without controversy as Kane was bundled over for a penalty despite having been in an offside position when the ball was played into the box.

The England man got up and slotted home from the spot, but the same could not be said for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the other end, who struck tamely at Lloris and then saw his rebound blocked after he was felled late on by Davinson Sanchez.

There was still time for more drama as Lucas Torreira received his marching orders for a high tackle on Danny Rose, but in the end both sides had to settle for the point.

As has increasingly been the case of late, Trippier’s contribution was debated by the Tottenham faithful after full-time, particularly in light of his disastrous own-goal at Chelsea in midweek.

Following an impressive World Cup with England last summer, the former Burnley man has struggled this term, with many feeling he has been exposed down the right-hand side.

Although a few Tottenham fans leapt to Trippier’s defence, most felt that he was wasteful going forward and showcased his defensive limitations when faced with the pace of Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi.
