Everton were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool at Anfield in the Merseyside Derby on Sunday but fans still took to social media to praise one of their men following the result.

Marco Silva’s side looked good to come away with a point, although they had a number of opportunities to come away with all three for the first time since 1999.

However, a crazy final minute ensued when Jordan Pickford decided to have a moment of madness when trying to deal with a ball he should have left.

The Toffees ‘keeper decided to try and deal with an attempt by Virgil van Djik that looped and saw him push it onto his crossbar.

In doing so, Pickford presented Divock Origi with the easiest of chances to write himself into Derby Day folklore and blew the lid off of Anfield.

Everton fans were outraged with the result following the conclusion of the game and could not believe what had happened.

A number of them took to social media to vent their frustrations, however, one player appeared to earn a number of plaudits.

Andre Gomes has quickly established himself as a fan-favourite at Everton, with many wanting him to complete a permanent transfer from Barcelona once his loan deal finishes.

The Portugal international appears to have settled into life at Goodison Park extremely well and supporters were pleased with his showing in the Merseyside Derby as well.

Fans reacted on Twitter to his performance with comments suggesting that he had been the best player on the pitch for the Toffees, with others echoing the desire to bring him to the club permanently.

Here are some of their reactions:
