Some Liverpool fans have criticised manager Jurgen Klopp for starting Dejan Lovren against RB Salzburg in the Champions League.
The Reds took on Salzburg away from home in Champions League Group E this evening.
Lovren started the match despite having suffered an injury against Bournemouth away from home at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League at the weekend.
The 30-year-old Croatia international central defender started the game against the Cherries, but he was taken off after just 40 minutes.
Klopp included the former Southampton star against Salzburg, but the defender suffered a knock to his knee and was taken off after 53 minutes.
According to WhoScored, the former Lyon central defender played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 82.2%, took 53 touches, and made four clearances.
Some Liverpool were not happy with Klopp for including Lovren in the starting lineup this evening despite his injury concerns and have criticised the German manager on Twitter.
Idk what the hell was Klopp thinking man— Ashvin (@Ashvin11LFC) December 10, 2019
Lovren was injured, and you played him in this game and he gets dragged out of position every single time and now he's probably injured again
Shouldn't have risked Lovren tbh. Unfortunate. Hope Gomez puts in a blinder— LFC Fans Corner (@LFCFansCorner) December 10, 2019
Not good player management from our medical team, Lovren limps out at the weekend then starts tonight but limps out again.— Marc Renton (@lfc6eurocups) December 10, 2019
Subs are primarily for tactical reasons and injuries second.
Get Shaq on for Gini or Naby
There was no need to play Lovren we wasted one substitute and we are risking Lovren's injury— Sonal Pai (@sonalpai) December 10, 2019
On reflection, bad decision to play Lovren. Clearly wasn’t ready and a risk not worth taking— Josh (@LFCJosh23) December 10, 2019
Find it hard to believe that Lovren started tonight. #lfc— Alex McGuinness (@alexmcguinness) December 10, 2019
