Celtic will look to build on their Betfred Cup success at the weekend when they return to Scottish Premiership action to take on Motherwell at Fir Park on Wednesday evening, but they will be missing a key defender for the clash, according to Sky Sports.
The Bhoys claimed a seventh successive piece of domestic silverware at Hampden Park when they took care of Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon, but they were replaced at the summit of the league and will aim to return there against Steve Robinson’s men.
You get the feeling that Celtic are just going up a gear now after a couple of important wins in a row, with the Betfred Cup win being preceded by a huge victory over Rosenborg in the Europa League last week.
If the Bhoys can pick up the three points and their Glasgow rivals Rangers fail to see off Aberdeen elsewhere on the evening, Brendan Rodgers’ men will go back to the top of the league with the heavy Christmas schedule fast approaching.
Celtic will have to get the better of Motherwell without their powerful central defender Dedryck Boyata though. The Belgium international picked up an injury in the win over the Dons on Sunday, and he will miss the trip to Fir Park, and is already a doubt for the huge showdown with RB Salzburg next week.
That will be a massive blow to the Bhoys boss, as he is already without the likes of Kristoffer Ajer who could play in that position. Rodgers will also be missing Daniel Arzani and Eboue Kouassi, who are long-term absentees, while the game is expected to come too soon for Nir Bitton as well.
Leigh Griffiths is nearing a return to the Celtic set up, but although his fitness is getting stronger, he is also unlikely to be ready to compete against the Well.
