Manchester City starlet Kane Ritchie-Hosler has made the somewhat surprising move to leave the reigning Premier League champions to join Scottish giants Rangers.
Commentator Tom Miller confirmed the news on Rangers TV during the coverage of the Light Blues’ 0-0 draw with St Johnstone on Saturday, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
The switch will officially go ahead in the summer, but it sees the Gers continuing major plans to secure their future at the top level with the arrival of yet another promising talent from south of the border.
This news comes less than a month after Rangers snapped up Nathan Young-Coombes from Chelsea, who has already made a good impression on fans with some exciting displays for the youth side in the Alkass International Cup.
As for Ritchie-Hosler, the skilful forward follows in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho and Brahim Diaz, both of whom have departed the Etihad Stadium in the past 18 months despite being touted as future stars of the game.
With so many big names in the City side, it seems younger players are seeing their paths blocked and have sought transfers to increase their senior opportunities.
Indeed, Sancho has been a revelation at Borussia Dortmund in his second season at the club, with eight goals and 13 assists to his name despite still having over a month to wait until his 19th birthday.
Ritchie-Hosler has a long way to go before he hits those heights, but there is clearly hope at Rangers that he will have a key role to play in the coming years.
The Ibrox outfit’s Scottish Premiership title challenge is stuttering at present and the stalemate with St Johnstone on Saturday could prove to be terminal to their chances of lifting the trophy for the first time since 2011.
Manager Steven Gerrard has certainly overseen an improvement upon last term’s efforts, though, and the signing of Ritchie-Hosler shows he is building a brighter future for Rangers.
