Leeds United started their Championship season with a 3-1 win away to Bristol City on Sunday afternoon, and after the match their supporters were full of praise for a key man in the victory.
The Whites had already seen a number of their supposed rivals for promotion this season drop points across the opening weekend of the campaign, and it was important that they did not do the same.
Leeds suffered the ultimate heartache of missing out on going up to the Premier League last term, and with the feeling of that disappointment fuelling them, they headed to Ashton Gate to begin another Championship tilt.
It was not long before the Whites were in control against a side many are talking up as dark horses this season, and their dominance was rewarded on 25 minutes when Pablo Hernandez fired home from the edge of the box to put Marcelo Bielsa’s team ahead.
Leeds took over the contest in the second period and put Bristol City to the sword in next to no time. Patrick Bamford doubled the advantage for the Elland Road outfit just prior to the hour mark, and then some 15 minutes later Jack Harrison put the match beyond the home side when he made it 3-0 to the visitors.
The hosts picked up a consolation before the final whistle was blown, but that was not going to take the gloss off the performance and the victory for the Whites.
This was a win which saw Leeds lay a marker down, with some key players all contributing to a success which should do wonders for their confidence and belief.
It was Whites star Hernandez who pulled the strings for Bielsa’s men in the win, and the Leeds fans were full of praise for the Spanish maestro when they reacted to the victory on social media after the final whistle.
Here are some of their messages:
Pablo Hernandez is the 2019 version of Gordon Strachan… a winger who is more influential in the middle. Dominant. Unplayable. Supremely influential. #lufc

We've gotta be happy with that start. Hernandez being a little Spanish wizard once again, Bamford both playing very well and more importantly finding the net in our first competitive game, and Harrison getting a well-deserved goal to fuel his own hype train. #lufc

Pablo Hernandez. Best signing since? I'm genuinely thinking nearly 2 decades. I know Becchio and Beckford and those dark League 1 times but this beautiful little magician is another level. #lufc #mot #alaw

Deserved #LUFC win, but can we talk about Pablo Hernández’s goal?
He picked out the very top corner from the edge of the box and made it look easy.
There are few players, if any, better than him in this League.#MOT
