Sunderland are ready to rival West Brom for the signing of free agent midfielder Mohamed Sissoko, according to The Mirror.
The 31-year-old is available on a free transfer having left Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua after a solitary campaign in the Far East.
Sissoko counts Valencia, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain among his former clubs and knows the Premier League well following spending three years on Liverpool’s books from 2005 to 2008.

The Malian veteran is renowned for his work-rate and tenacious tackling, which could well be assets for an astute Premier League side looking for an extra option in the heart of their midfield.
The report suggests that Sissoko is training with West Brom currently and wants to impress sufficiently to earn a permanent deal with the Baggies.
However, Sunderland boss David Moyes is also in the market for an extra body in his Black Cats squad and could potentially make an attempt to steal the African enforcer away from his Premier League rivals.
