Sunderland have Bordeaux left-back Diego Contento on their radar to potentially replace the outgoing Patrick van Aanholt, according to Sky Sports.

The Black Cats have allegedly approached the French side about a possibility to take the former German youth international on a loan deal until the end of the season.

David Moyes is looking to bring in reinforcements to his defence, having already brought Joleon Lescott in on a free transfer, and sees Contento as a possible addition.

The left-back, who is also eligible to play for Italy, had a successful time whilst playing for Bayern Munich, winning three Bundesliga and cup doubles before joining the French outfit in 2014.

Van Aanholt is reportedly set to join former boss Sam Allarydce at Crystal Palace in a £9 million deal, which won’t help Moyes’ plans of trying to keep the club in the Premier League but could offer the Scotsman transfer funds.
