Stoke City fans will be made to wait to see their deadline day signing Sam Clucas, as the midfielder will be on the sidelines for another four weeks.
The Potters play their first home match in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, when Brentford are the visitors to the Bet365 Stadium, and while Gary Rowett has no new injury concerns he faces being without his latest acquisition against the Bees.
The Stoke boss confirmed the absence of the midfielder when he addressed the media ahead of the match.
“I think Sam is probably four weeks away from being ready to play a Championship game,” their official website quotes him as saying.
“The value of the deal reflects that, and the value of the deal meant it was too good an opportunity to miss because he is a top quality player, who boasts all the right attributes for this Club.”
Clucas is not the only man who will be missing for the home side. They will also be without Maxim Choupo-Moting and Giannelli Imbula who are both training with the under-23 side as they look to regain full fitness.
One man who will boost Rowett’s side ahead of the match is Saido Berahino. He missed the defeat at Leeds last week, but the Potters boss has suggested he will be involved on Saturday.
“Maxim and Giannelli won’t be available for the game, but everyone else has a chance of featuring, especially Saido Berahino who missed out because of reasons beyond his control last weekend.”
“There is a very good chance that he will be involved in the 18 against Brentford on Saturday.”
Stoke will hope to pick up their first competitive win since relegation from the Premier League, but they will need to improve on their showing at Elland Road last Sunday if they are to achieve that aim.
