Stoke City got their Championship season started in their worst possible way on Sunday when they were beaten 3-1 by Leeds United and fans were angered with the performance of one of their men.

The Potters will have been looking to get their campaign off to the best possible way as they look to return to the Premier League, however, Garry Rowett’s side were well off the pace.

The visitors found themselves behind early on in front of a packed Elland Road crowd when Mateusz Klich fired the Whites into the lead inside the first 15 minutes.

Things did not get better for the Staffordshire side just before half-time when Jack Butland made a costly error.

The England international somehow allowed a strike from Pablo Hernandez from outside the box squeeze past him.

Stoke improved in the second half for a moment and managed to get themselves back into the game when Benik Afobe netted from the penalty spot, however, the joy from that goal was short-lived.

Liam Cooper restored Leeds’ two-goal advantage almost immediately as the home side continued to exert their dominance.

Stoke fans were angered by their side’s performance and took to social media to slate Afobe for his performance.

Despite scoring the penalty, a number of supporters took to Twitter to criticise him as they had felt he had not offered anything to the team and had been lazy throughout the fixture.

The 25-year-old joined Stoke in a surprise deal this summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers, who he had only been for 11 days following a transfer from AFC Bournemouth.

Here are some of their reactions:
