Stoke City are set to start their 2019/20 Championship season with a game against Queens Park Rangers at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday.
The Potters will have to make do without the services of captain Ryan Shawcross, as reported by Sky Sports.
The experienced campaigner suffered a broken fibula while playing against Leicester last week during a pre-season friendly and could be set to face up to four months out of action as the injury was serious. The absence of the leadership of Shawcross is a major blow to Nathan Jones’ side.
Most would expect Liam Lindsay to slot in for Shawcross. However, the 23-year-old will be suspended for the game as he suffered a red-card during his last game for Barnsley. This means that Bruno Martins Indi is likely to slot in with Danny Batth in defence.
Stoke could have up to six players making their debuts during the game in Adam Davies, Jordan Cousins, Lee Gregory, Nick Powell, Stephen Ward and Tommy Smith.
Stoke have a good recent record against QPR. They are unbeaten against them in six League games, having last tasted defeat back in May 2012 during a Premier League fixture. QPR have also won just one out of their previous six away games against the Potters.
This fixture will however be hard to predict. The Championship is hard to predict and even though both sides had less than impressive seasons last term, both will be aiming for promotion this season.
Stoke will be favourites but the fact that a number of players will be making their debuts could be something that QPR aim to exploit.
