Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has suggested to The Scottish Sun that he wants Jermain Defoe to stay at Ibrox beyond next summer.
Defoe joined Rangers on an 18-month loan deal from Bournemouth in January 2019.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United striker has been superb for the Gers and has been banging in the goals quite regularly.
Rangers manager Gerrard has suggested that the 36-year-old striker could get a contract to stay at the Ibrox club in the long run.
Gerrard told The Scottish Sun about Defoe: “If Jermain stays in the form he is in, Jermain has a conversation with me at some stage further on in the season. I will reward players who reward me with performances.”
Defoe has been superb for Rangers so far, and there have been times when he has kept star striker Alfredo Morelos out of the starting lineup.
True, the Englishman is 36 years of age now, but he is very fit and keeps himself healthy.
Defoe can play at a very high level for two years at least, and handing the striker a one-year contract when he become a free agent next summer will make sense
